Free tools,
no promises.

This is a personal workshop, not a product. Everything here is free, there is nothing to sign up for and nothing to pay, and you owe me nothing for using it. In exchange, I make no promises about any of it. Here is what that means.

What this is

And is not

kelvinct.com is a set of small tools I built for myself and left out where other people can use them. There is no account, no subscription, and no support desk. Using the site means you accept what is on this page. If you do not, the remedy is simple: close the tab, and nothing of yours is left behind.

I may change, break, or delete any tool at any time, without notice. Nothing here is a service I have committed to keeping alive.

No warranty. Do not rely on these for anything that matters.

Everything on this site is provided as is, with no warranty of any kind: no promise that it is accurate, available, uninterrupted, or fit for any particular purpose. These are small tools written by one person, and they can be wrong.

Specifically: the pet age calculators, the steak timer, and the dougan field guide are informational. They are not veterinary, medical, food safety, or professional advice. Cooking meat to a safe temperature is your responsibility, not a timer's.

The Instagram tool reports what is inside the export file you hand it. Instagram decides what goes into that file and when. A name appearing in a list is not proof that a real person did anything, so please do not treat it as evidence about someone.

The watershed map draws on USGS and OpenStreetMap data. It is for curiosity. It is not survey grade and is not for navigation, property boundaries, or regulatory use.

If a result matters, check it against the real source.

Liability

The plain version

To the fullest extent the law allows, I am not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or anything you did because of it, including decisions made on a tool's output. Some places do not allow every limitation like this one, in which case it applies as far as it legally can.

The honest summary: this is a free tool made by one person, and you use it at your own risk.

Your files stay yours

I never get them

You do not upload anything to me. Files you open in a tool are read inside your browser and never sent anywhere, which is the whole point of the site and is set out in the privacy page.

One consequence worth stating: because I never receive your files, I claim no rights in them, and I also cannot recover, restore, or delete anything for you. If you clear your browser storage, whatever a tool had saved is gone, and I have no copy.

What is mine

And what you can do with it

The writing, design, illustrations, and code on this site are mine, © Kelvin Chang. The source is public on GitHub so that anyone can check the privacy claims. Public to read is not the same as licensed to reuse: there is no licence file, so ordinary copyright applies by default.

If you want to reuse a piece of it, ask me. The answer is usually yes.

One exception, and it goes the other way. KelvinXDR lives in a different repo and is licensed: GPL-3.0. You already have permission to use, modify, and redistribute it on those terms, and this paragraph is not needed for that. Nothing on this page adds a restriction to it.

Software you install

KelvinXDR

Every other thing here is a web page you visit. KelvinXDR is a macOS app you build from source and run on your own machine, which is a different kind of risk and deserves saying separately.

It is covered by GPL-3.0, and that licence governs it, including its own disclaimer of warranty and limitation of liability in sections 15 and 16. Those apply instead of this page, and where the two ever disagree, the licence wins.

Its own terms section spells out what that means in full, including the private Apple APIs that a macOS update can break without warning, and it is the copy kept current. Read that one before you install it.

Fair use of the site

A short list

Other people's services

Their rules apply

Three parts of this site involve someone else, and their terms govern their side of it: the watershed map uses OpenStreetMap and USGS data, the sticker tool loads images from LINE, and Dash is a separate connected service on its own domain with its own terms and privacy policy. Nothing on this page overrides theirs.

If these terms change I will update this page and move the date at the top. There is no notification list, because there is no list. Questions go to hello@kelvinct.com, and I do read them.
